Primary School

Arrochar Primary School sits on the banks of Loch Lomond with wonderful views of Ben Lomond. The school serves the communities of Arrochar, Tarbet and the surrounding area.

Accommodation is divided between the original Victorian building and a modern classroom block. Pupils have ready access to an adjacent woodland area and the shoreline of the loch. The school has a pre-5 unit and four primary classes offering the full curriculum for ages 3 - 11. We are well supported by our Parent Council, the PTA and the community.

A list of school holiday dates can be seen here.

School Christmas Fair - Saturday November 30th. Click here for details.

The school currently has a textile recycling bin in the playground for use by the whole community. All proceeds from this go to the PTA to help provide extracurricular activities for the children.

The school is currently involved in an exciting range of activities as part of the Community Development Trust's Hidden Heritage Project. These include:

  • learning how to survey, measure and record buildings
  • learning how to find out about their local history from old maps and documents
  • learning about Vikings in Scotland (and probably in their playground!) from internationally renowned specialist Dr. Colleen Batey
  • learning about how Vikings lived, what they wore, what games they played, how they fought (and no doubt much more!) from Glasgow Vikings
  • doing lots of extra craft activities (making chess sets, racing Viking longships, painting rune stones...)
  • EXCAVATING!!

The GalGael Trust has been building a playground musical instrument in the shape of a Viking boat, using traditional boat-building techniques. They'll be coming to install it in the school playground soon - Watch This Space!
